What Is Swimming Pool Resurfacing?

Swimming pool resurfacing essentially replaces the surface material on your swimming pool, which may be plaster, tile, or many other things. Your existing surface material is stripped away, and a new surface is placed on the foundation of your swimming pool. This process is ideal for covering up cracks or changing the color and finish of your swimming pool.

Let us help you ENJOY your pool again!

How to Know When You Need Pool Resurfacing Services

Like everything else in your home, your pool will wear out over time. A swimming pool needs regular maintenance to keep it from getting worn out, prevent leaks and continue to look beautiful. However, when a pool’s surface begins to show signs of damage or chip, it may be time to consider pool resurfacing. Keeping your pool’s surface in good condition is important because it acts as a watertight seal that protects the underlying structure of your pool from water damage. Resurfacing your pool can modify and enhance the appearance of your swimming pool while also providing solutions to cracks, stains. and other damages to the surface that occur over time.

Surface Stains
Stains on the floors and walls of your pool make it look dirty and unattractive. Acid washing can remove stains, but your swimming pool will eventually need resurfacing if it continues to get stained.
Flaky Plaster
Changes in temperature and chemical imbalances in your swimming pool can soften the bond between your swimming pool’s foundation and surface material. This results in flakes peeling off in certain sections of your pool.
Rough Surface
Sometimes, chemical reactions beneath your pool’s floor and walls will cause the formation of bumpy and rough surfaces over time. To get rid of this, it is best to remove the existing surface and replace it.
Cracks
Cracks in your plaster, tile, or any other pool surface can range from minor eyesores to major structural problems. When we resurface your swimming pool, we can seal cracks and apply a new, crack-free layer of surface material over the foundation.

Understanding Your Pool Resurfacing Options

When it’s time to resurface your swimming pool, there are several different types of material we can use. Aquaman Pools can help you remove almost any type of pool material, from plaster to tile. When you meet with one of our technicians, we’ll help you select the right surface material for your pool.

Pool Resurfacing Services for Plaster

We can remove your existing plaster and replace it with a brand-new layer. We use the highest quality mixture of marble sand/limestone and white cement. We can make the plaster mixture into many different colors that are sure to suit your design scheme. When we apply it, we use proven techniques to ensure that the surface is perfectly smooth and even.

Pool Resurfacing Services for Fiberglass

Many homeowners choose to resurface their swimming pool with fiberglass because of its flexibility and affordability. Fiberglass can be placed over plaster easily and is resistant to algae and chemical stains. Fiberglass pools can be more fragile, and repairing them is not as easy as plaster or other options with a concrete foundation.

Pool Resurfacing With Pebble Tec

Pebble Tec is a cement mixture that incorporates small pebbles. This gives pebble tec surfaces a unique texture and natural appearance. We can remove nearly any existing surface, from tile to plaster, and put down a new layer of pebble tech surfacing. Neighbors won’t even recognize your pool!

How Pool Resurfacing Works

There are many ways to resurface a pool. Aquaman Pools has spent more than 15 years mastering the perfect resurfacing techniques. We pay careful attention to every last detail, from the removal of your existing surface to the refilling and balancing of the water in your pool after. When you work with a professional pool resurfacing company, you’ll realize it was well worth it. Learn more about our swimming pool resurfacing process below.

Step 1: Drain the Pool

Before we do anything else, we will drain your pool of all existing water. We start by performing a safe shutdown of all equipment. Then, our technicians will use submersible pumps to pull the water out of your swimming pool and into a nearby drain. During this step of the process, we take measures to ensure that no damage is done to your lawn.

Step 2: Remove Old Surface and Prep

Next, we will go to work stripping your swimming pool of all old and damaged materials, including plaster, tiling, or vinyl lining. Some will be stripped away by hand, and other sections may be removed with special tools like a sandblaster. Once all old material is removed, we will clean and smooth out the foundation of your pool, preparing it for the new surface.

Step 3: Lay New Surface

Laying the new plaster or pebble tec is the most important and artful part of the process. Our whole team coordinates to apply the new surface material while simultaneously smoothing it out. We often go over the surface with several coats, making a thick layer over the concrete foundation of your pool.

Step 4: Plumbing and Sealing

After we have applied the plaster or pebble tech, we will ensure that all plumbing and seals are working properly. We seal everywhere so that no water leaks around fixtures like drains, jets, or lights. We also want to ensure that no sections of plaster are blocking any crucial plumbing system components.

Step 5: Finishing

We often apply special finishes to your swimming pool’s new surface. These finishes can add aesthetics and longevity to your pool. We also spend this time doing a final inspection and making sure that every last surface is perfectly smooth and even.

Step 6: Refill Your Pool and Balance Chemicals

After we have let your new pool surface completely set, our team will get your swimming pool up and running again. We will refill the pool with water, restart all your equipment, and balance the chemical levels in the water. Before we leave, we will test the water and let you know how soon you can jump into the pool.

How Long Does Resurfacing Take?

Every swimming pool resurfacing job is different, but on average, the project will typically take between five and seven days. There are many things that can change that, though, from the weather to the size of your swimming pool. When you meet with Aquaman Pools, we can give you a personalized timeline for your specific pool’s resurfacing project.
